The International Journal of Swarm Intelligence and Evolutionary Computation (IJSIEC) seeks to provide an opportunity for researchers from computer science, engineering, and mathematical backgrounds to disseminate and exchange knowledge in the rapidly emerging fields of swarm Intelligence, evolutionary computation, computational intelligence, optimization techniques, and their applications. Swarm Intelligence (SI) is a computational intelligence technique involving the study of collective behavior in decentralized systems. Such systems are made up by a population of simple individuals interacting locally with one another and with their environment. Although there is typically no centralized control dictating the behavior of the individuals, local interactions among individuals often cause a global pattern to emerge. Examples of systems like this can be found in nature, including ant colonies, bird flocking, animal herding, honey bees, and many more.

The journal publishes both theoretical and practical developments of computational systems drawing their inspiration from nature, with particular emphasis on swarm intelligence (SI) and evolutionary algorithms (EAs).
