Folia Geographica is an international peer-reviewed scientific journal for theory, research and practice of geography and related disciplines. The main aim of the journal is to present innovative ideas and approaches to geography research, teaching, and learning.The journal follows a tradition dating back to 1959, when the first issue was published. It has been published in the years 1959–2004 as a serial publication. The title „FOLIA GEOGRAPHICA“ has been introduced in 1998 as a part of a wider edition „Acta Facultatis Studorium Humanitatis et Naturae Universitatis Presoviensis, Prírodné vedy, Folia Geographica“. Since 2005 it is published as a journal. Since 2009 are regularly published two issues per year. The current title „Folia Geographica“ is valid since 2017. The journal is published by University of Prešov.
The editorial policy of journal is not under influence of sponsors. Folia Geographica welcomes article submissions and does not charge a publication fee and article processing fee. Folia Geographica supports an open-source model of scholarship which values free exchange of ideas within geography and between geographers and other disciplines.
Folia Geographica publishes original research papers, all of which are refereed by at least two anonymous reviewers (double blind review). To be accepted, a paper must adhere a high standard of scholarship and make a significant theoretical, conceptual, methodological or empirical contribution to geographic knowledge. It should be grounded in the relevant literature.
The journal welcomes original contributions in human geography, regional geography, political geography, physical geography and landscape ecology, geographic information science, metageography, geographical thought and geographical education. It is opened to papers in related scientific disciplines such as: spatial economics, spatial sociology, demography, cartography, urban and regional planning, tourism and place marketing, geopolitics and international relations, environmental science, etc. Papers are welcomed on any theme involving the application of geographical theory and methodology in the resolution of human, societal and environmental problems and also problems contected with natural-humans interrelations. Papers focusing on the Central and South-Eastern Europe are particularly welcomed. Moreover, the contents of journal may include review articles, technical reports, book reviews, invited essays, and memorials.
