The Academy formerly published one scientific journal entitled Tydskrif vir Wetenskap en Kuns which covered the natural sciences and the humanities. In 1961 it was decided to publish two separate journals, respectively for the natural sciences and the humanities. This led to the founding of the Tydskrif vir Geesteswetenskappe in 1961.
The Journal of Humanities/ Tydskrif vir Geesteswetenskappe focuses on publishing original research and review articles in the fields of theology, languages, art and culture, social, economic and educational sciences, as well as book reviews, chronicles and poems.
The parallel titles of the journal are Tijdschrift voor de Geesteswetenskappen / Zeitschrift für die Geisteswissenschaften / Journal of Humanities. The
journal is published quarterly. ISSN: 0041-4751
