The journal is published jointly by Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of Tatarstan Academy of Sciences and Mari State University since 2012

Scope of the publications is not limited chronologically or regionally. Nevertheless, preference is given to publications on cultural and historical processes related to the Volga, Ural and North-Caspian regions.
The journal contains genuine theoretic and research articles on archaeology, anthropology, archaeozoology, bioarchaeology, numismatics, epigraphics, ethnic archaeology and other interdisciplinary studies.
An important place in the journal is offered to the most recent field surveys conducted by archaeologists, anthropologists and ethnographers. Chronicles of scientific life, proceedings of symposia and workshops find their place on pages of the journal.
Main sections of the journal:
Research and publications. It is the main section of the journal, including authentic scientific articles featuring the topics of the journal.
Discussions. This includes discussion papers on debatable issues.
Critics and bibliography. This includes reviews, summaries, etc.
Chronicle. This includes scientific developments (reports from conferences, anniversary dedications, greetings, obituaries, etc.)
These thematic sections of the journal do not narrow the scope of topics available to the contributors, because we can add more sections to cover interesting and relevant manuscripts.
