The Sydney Institute Quarterly was first published in November 1997.
It replaced two journals ? namely Gerard Henderson’s Media Watch and
Commercial Issues.
The inaugural issue of Gerard Henderson’s Media Watch was published in
April 1988 ? over a year before the ABC TV Media Watch program went to
air. It was the first media commentary in
Australia which looked critically at the role of journalists, editors,
presenters and producers. Since 1997, Gerard Henderson’s Media Watch
has been published as part of The Sydney Institute
Quarterly.
The Sydney Institute Quarterly also published Stephen Matchett’s
popular column, “Review of the Reviewers” along with articles by Anne
Henderson and book reviews by John McConnell.
Recent contributors have also included Professor Douglas Kirsner,
Bishop Tom Frame and Geoffrey Luck. Occasionally transcripts from the
question/discussion period at Institute functions are
published in The Sydney Institute Quarterly ? along with correspondence.
