Description

Contemporary neuroscience involves more levels of theory explanation and methodology than perhaps any other scientific endeavor. In addition to the neurophysiologists and neuroanatomists that constitute its traditional core biophysicists neurochemists molecular geneticists evolutionary biologists neuropsychologists neurologists and cognitive and computational scientists are now key players. Even some philosophers have taken notice of the latest developments seeking lessons for the 'big questions' about mind knowledge and normativity. The term 'neurophilosophy ' coined less than two decades ago shows up increasingly in the neuroscientific and philosophical literatures. In such an interdisciplinary endeavor researchers are eager to learn about new developments above and below their level of expertise. This is especially true among the higher levels (neuropsychology cognitive and computational neuroscience neurophilosophy) since neurofunctional theories must cohere with the physical/chemical/molecular machinery investigated at lower levels. Brain and Mind will provide a forum for interdisciplinary communication throughout the neurosciences. Unlike existing interdisciplinary journals it will target exclusively researchers investigating brains and nervous systems. The overarching aim is to exclude no one doing high-quality neuroscientific or neurophilosophical research interested in communicating results to a wider audience. The Editorial Board will encourage submissions that transcend disciplinary boundaries including reports of experimental results. Regular features will include invited peer commentary on selected manuscripts an invited 'State of the Science' series featuring discussions of 'hot' topics by noted experts abstracts and papers from international conferences and symposia rapid publication of theoretical notes and solicited book reviews.
