"Pamiętnik Literacki". Czasopismo kwartalne poświęcone historii i krytyce literatury polskiej ("Literary Memoir". A Quarterly on the History and Criticism of the Polish Literature) is an academic quarterly journal was established in 1902 as a continuation of the Lvov "Pamiętnik Towarzystwa Literackiego im.
Adama Mickiewicza" (The Memoir of the Adam Mickiewicz Literary Society). Published by the Ossolineum Publishing House, "Literary Memoir" had been issued since 1939 in Lvov, then in Warsaw, and from 1950 in Wrocław, by the following publishers: Ossolineum Publishing House, Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Polonistyki Wrocławskiej, Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego, Instytut Badań Literackich PAN (Institute of Literary Research PAN) - since the beginning of 2003. The successive chief editors of "Literary Memoir" were the outstanding literary scholars: Wilhelm Bruchnalski, Bronisław Gubrynowicz, Edward Porębowicz, Tadeusz Pini, Ludwik Bernacki, Wiktor Hahn, Ignacy Chrzanowski, Kazimierz Kolbuszewski, Eugeniusz Kucharski, Stanisław Łempicki, Julian Krzyżanowski, Tadeusz Mikulski, Bogdan Zakrzewski, Grażyna Borkowska (from the 2/1998 issue).
The division into sections established at the beginning was fundamentally preserved: Treatises and Articles (extensive source texts on the history of literature and literary criticism), Materials and Notes (monographic articles, biographical and bibliographical researches, textological and editorial problems, unpublished papers, e.g. literary correspondence), Reviews and Surveys (critical discussions on most important publications). In 1950 the Problems of Artistic Language section was introduced (papers on poetic and stylistics, mainly in historical perspective), literary communication, literary-linguistic interface, and in 1960 - Translations section (until 1994; comprised translations of foreign texts on new literary trends, methods and techniques of analysis), and in 1999 - From Foreign Magazines section (surveys of foreign publications). Two other sections - Chronicle (profiles of departed scholars) and Discussions - Correspondence complete the layout of the issue. Since the beginning of 1999 every issue is planned to be a thematic volume.
